AROMATHERAPY

£60 - £65    60 mins
(plus 15 min initial consultation)

Aromatherapy captures the very essence of nature. Drawing upon the healing powers of the plant world, it employs only a plant’s essential oil, which is akin to its lifeforce. Aromatherapy is a treatment designed to help maintain physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing by the correct application of pure essential oils via massage. The word ‘aroma’ means a fragrance or sweet smell and the word therapy simply means a treatment designed to bring about a positive change in an individual.

Since an aromatherapy treatment is concerned with creating balance and equilibrium within a person, its primary uses are to calm, uplift, detoxify, de-stress and reinvigorate – in other words, to help the body to heal and regain health and harmony.

Essential oils

Essential oils are volatile substances that occur naturally in a variety of plants grown all over the world. They are highly concentrated and aromatic and form the basis of most perfumes and fragrances, and the scent makes a vital contribution to an oil’s natural healing abilities. Essential oils have many varied beneficial properties and, when blended together professionally, can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions. For example, Lavender is good for treating burns and bruises, depression and insomnia, whilst Sandalwood and Frankincense are good for dry and mature skin.

Aromatherapy massage and what to expect from a treatment

The therapeutic effects of the essential oils in combination with massage can help to calm and relax the whole person. Massage is proven to eliminate toxins and promote healing and recovery of muscle and skin tissue. Choosing the right combination of essential oils for an individual can promote improved health, ease pain, reduce stress, calm the mind and help to balance the whole person.

Initially, I undertake a full consultation to include questions about your general health, medical history and emotional wellbeing. This information is treated with the utmost respect and is confidential. Essential oils will be chosen uniquely for your situation and I will protect your dignity by only exposing the area of the body being treated. Often, I will offer you a therapeutic blend of essential oils to take home to use between treatments. This helps to give your treatment continuity and can speed the sense of wellbeing.

Other effective methods of use of essential oils

Aromatherapy is not always integrated with massage, there are many ways that essential oils can be used to positive effect. Other methods include inhalation, bathing, lotions/creams, compresses.

A professional aromatherapist will be able to advise you on the right dosages for each method, and the best way for you to incorporate essential oils into your daily routine. With Covid-19 in mind, certain oils are particularly antibacterial and anti-viral, including T-tree, lavender, bergamot and manuka.
