REFLEXOLOGY

£55 - £50    60 mins
(plus 15 min initial consultation)

Reflexology activates the healing powers of the body. It is based on practices that originated in ancient China and Egypt dating back several thousands of years, and the discovery that energy zones run throughout the body and reflex points on the feet correspond to the major organs, glands and structures within the entire body. Dr William Fitzgerald, an American ENT surgeon, developed the theory of the link between reflex zones in the feet and hands with corresponding areas and organs of the body. He is responsible for introducing reflexology to the West in about 1913.

By applying pressure to these points and stimulating them, any imbalance can be detected and treated, restoring health and harmony to the body as a whole. Targeted massage stimulates a free flow of blood and lymph to cells and tissues. It enhances the circulatory system which is crucial to good health and elimination is improved. Following illness, stress, injury or disease, the body is in a state of imbalance and reflexology can help restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium.

Sensitive trained hands can detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet and by working on these points, the Reflexologist can release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the whole body via the autonomic nervous system. This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself at its own pace, often counteracting a lifetime of misuse. This can be an opportunity for you to give time to yourself, time to relax and replenish your energies.

At the first consultation we will have a preliminary talk about your health and medical history. Then you will remove your shoes and socks and relax while I begin to work on your feet, noting the problem areas. For the most part, the treatment is very pleasant and soothing. There may be discomfort in some places but this is fleeting and is an indication of tension or imbalance in a corresponding part of the body.

Treatment usually lasts for an hour. A number of sessions will normally be necessary as the benefits of reflexology build up gently and gradually. After the first treatment or two your body may respond in a very definite way; you may have a feeling of well-being and relaxation or you may begin to feel lethargic, nauseous or tearful for a short time. This is transitory and is simply part of the healing process. Once your body is back in tune, it is wise to have regular maintenance treatments.
